It is not every day you get to interview one of your heroes. Earlier this month, I got to interview three: Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe — in a conversation about the early Bang on a Can years.
A few days later, I participated in my first BoaC marathon (without running shoes, but with pen and paper) and almost sat on the lap of Steve Reich when my inner sports journalist demanded a comment on the performance of his music (he took it quite nicely), and ate ice cream to Ligeti’s music. Not a bad week. I wrote about it on New York Public Radio’s New Sounds and in Seismograf:
